5 Ways to Put You in a Fall State of Mind at Home

Fall is here in Fredericksburg with crisp mornings turning into warmer afternoons. Leaves are slowly transforming from the summer green to the bold oranges, reds and yellows. What a perfect time to add Fall touches to your home!

Plant Mums

Nothing says Fall like beautiful chrysanthemums or “mums” for short. With their vibrant color from reds to golds to purples, they fit perfectly in any garden or on a front door step.

Mums are quite easy to plant in a garden or simply plop them in a planter box and water as needed. They must be “dead-headed” but they will continue to look beautiful for weeks during the Fall season.

Many local garden centers like Roxbury Farm, Lowes and Meadow Farms carry different varieties and colors.

Make Pumpkin Bread

When thinking of fall treats, pumpkin bread always comes to mind. Pair with a cup of coffee or spiced tea for the perfect breakfast or afternoon snack. There are many different recipes to choose from on the internet. Pick a couple to try and have your family vote on their favorite.

Create a Coffee Station

Many tend to have the coffee pot always sitting out or it is tucked away when not in use. Why not incorporate it into a coffee, tea or hot chocolate station for the fall and winter months. Set out your favorite mugs, a pretty container to hold spoons, a sugar container and a small picture – you are set!

Change out Throw Pillows & Add a Blanket

Swap out summer pillows dressed in linen or cotton on your sofa and chairs for textured or velvet fabrics for a quick transition to Fall. Add a cozy throw blanket over the arm of your sofa and settle into a good movie with your favorite loved one.

Host a S’mores Night

Fall tends to bring friends and family together. Hosting a S’mores Night around the fire pit is a perfect way to round out a long week. Make it as easy as possible by having all your ingredients together and ready on tray or in a box. Mix it up by adding gingersnaps, peanut butter cups, and flavored marshmallows in addition to graham crackers and chocolate bars.

Have hot chocolate or spiced cider in a carafe outside along with some plates and plenty of napkins. Relax and enjoy a night under the stars with sweet treats and plenty of laughter.
