Meet Virginia Hill

Susan Moss is the beauty, the brains and the style extraordinaire behind the modern clothing boutique Virginia Hill, which is located on Caroline Street in Downtown Fredericksburg.

Despite not having a background in fashion other than her pure love for it, Susan started Virginia Hill in 2013 as an online business run from the dining room in her home.

Her goal was and continues to be to offer affordable clothing that is trendy for women of a variety of ages. She also wanted to share her love of fashion that is a bit bohemian and edgy with customers looking for that style and to those seeking clothing a bit outside their box. The business grew quickly and she found herself offering trunk shows to friends throughout the state.

In 2015, Susan opened a “Pop Up Shop” on Caroline Street that led to more demand for the modern clothing that she was selling. September 2016 found her opening her current shop down the street from her temporary location and settling in to a thriving business.

About Virginia Hill

How did Susan decide on the name Virginia Hill?

“Virginia” is for her love of our great state. Together with her husband and two children, their roots are here.

“Hill” comes from her time spent at Auburn University as her sorority sat on the “Hill.”

What about the Virginia Hill logo?

The Dogwood in the logo is the Virginia state flower and represents her love for Virginia. And purple is Susan’s favorite color.

Virginia Hill Style

Throughout the year, the store morphs and changes according to the fashion styles. Because of Susan’s bohemian and edgy style, she loves neutrals and they reign during the fall and winter in the boutique. This spring and summer brings in lots of color along with fun patterns.

“Rompers and cold shoulders have been fast sellers and people have loved them. Ruffles have been popular as well!” said Susan.

The way the store is styled and decorated is beautiful. White walls combined with industrial chic racks, then paired with the fun Ikea pendant are perfect!!

One of Susan’s staples – a pair of well-fitted white jeans – go perfectly with all the colorful, flowy tops that adorn the racks.

A Few Tidbits About Susan Moss

Coffee or Tea?
“I’m new to coffee because of my son! But I have to have it every morning now.”

If you have a “Free Saturday” what would you do?
“Definitely workout in the morning – probably run. I would hang out with my husband and kids, just have family time. And in the evening I would probably do something with my husband – eating out, spend time with our friends.”

Interesting fact about Virginia Hill?
“You will notice that there is always something orange and blue in the store – it’s my love for Auburn!”
