When I first walked into Skin + Touch Therapy Spa I instantly noticed how beautiful and peaceful it felt. An instant later, Brian Lam walked around the corner and greeted me with a huge smile on his face. An incredible welcoming feeling filled the room. He is the type of person that you are drawn to and could sit for hours chatting with over a glass of Pinot Grigio.
Brian is the owner of Skin + Touch Therapy Spa, where he is not only gives his spa’s clients a top notch spa atmosphere, but is determined to create a place of community where people can come together and enjoy spa services, relax, converse or just take time for themselves.
After moving from New York to Fredericksburg with his husband in 2010, Brian opened the spa to offer massage and facials. Slowly he grew his business into a team of 18 therapists, which will be increasing to over 20 by summer. Brian knew that Fredericksburg was the right place for his spa and it has proven to be that.
Just recently he launched the opening of his nail salon that sits at the back of the building. The space is filled with sunlight, incredible banana leaf wallpaper behind the pedicure stations, and enough white manicure tables to seat plenty of clients, while keeping it intimate. A neatly set wall of nail polishes acts as art along with original artwork by Laura Craig. Directly outside the nail salon is a beautiful green space that is a “gem” in Downtown Fredericksburg. Brian hopes to have the outdoor space completed this spring/summer. It will be used for growing herbs, practicing yoga or just relaxing and taking time for some peace and quiet.
The day I stopped in Kiersten from Flux Movement was enjoying a bit of time just for her in the new nail salon. How fabulous is it to see business owners supporting other business owners in the area!
Skin + Touch Therapy Spa also offers a wide range of spa services from different types of massages to various facials, to waxing and everything in between. Upstairs is a beautiful resting area that features two infrared saunas perfect for before or after your massage or treatment. Brian wanted to create different feelings throughout the spa while staying true to the roots of the building. Some spaces feel more fresh and fun like in the nail salon, while upstairs gives you a calming feeling with the original floors, tall windows and fireplace that brings a touch of modern to the space noted in the fixtures and decor.

The spa also offers a wall of goods to purchase ranging from skin care products to jewelry to bath products. Many are unique lines with several being organic in nature. Brian tries to have many local products on hand as well, in order to support other businesses.
Life hasn’t slowed down for Brian and Skin + Touch Therapy but it has changed. Brian and his husband were happy to expand their family a couple of years ago when they adopted a sweet baby girl. She is what now “gives balance” to his life. As a family, they are continuing to be active in the community through enjoying the great restaurants, heading outside for walks and building relationships throughout the area.
